How to Opt Out of Social Security Mailed Notices Available Online
If you currently receive social security benefits, chances are you get notices from us through the mail. Today, “my social security” account holders can opt out of receiving notices by mail if those notices are also available online.
This includes the social security annual cost-of-living adjustment, which is available via the message center. The message center is a secure, convenient service available with your personal “my social security” account.
You can receive sensitive communications we don’t send through email or text. Simply log in to your personal “my social security” account and select the “message center” tab on your account home page.

Select “go to preferences.”

Then select the “which notices are available online?”

Question to view the latest notices available. Under the “communication preference” section, select “do not send a paper copy.” Next, read and agree to the authorization notice to stop receiving mailed notices.
Congratulations! you have successfully opted out of receiving notices by mail. Be sure to choose email or text or both in the notification preferences section and select “save” to be notified whenever there is a new message in the message center.

Unless you opt out, you will receive both mailed and online notices. If you need extra assistance in creating your account, please contact the “my social security” hotline at 1-800-772-1213 and say “help desk.”
