APPLY FOR CANADA WORKERS BENEFIT (CWB)

In this post, you’ll discover how to apply for the CWB, as well as how and how much of the benefit you may receive.

Make claims for the Canada workers’ benefit

To apply for the Canada workers benefit, you must:

  • Follow the directions in your certified tax software when filing your taxes electronically.
  • If you’re submitting a paper return, fill out and submit Schedule 6, Canada Workers Benefits.

Making a claim for the disability supplement entails the following steps:

  1. If you and your spouse are both qualified for the disability tax credit, the individual who is entitled for the disability supplement should claim both the base amount and the disability supplement.
  2. Only one of you can claim the basic amount if you have an eligible spouse and both of you are qualified for the disability tax credit. You must, however, claim the disability supplement on a separate Schedule 6 for each of you.

Make an application for CWB advance payments.

You may be eligible for up to half of your CWB in advance payments if you fulfill the qualifying conditions. Choose one of the following alternatives to apply for CWB advance payments:

Families may expect to pay $2,379 in total

The amount gradually reduces, if your adjusted net family income is more than $17,348 per year. If your adjusted family net income exceeds $37,173, no basic amount is provided.

Residents of Quebec will have a different maximum baseline CWB amount.

Also if one spouse is eligible for the disability tax credit and your adjusted family net income is more than $43,118, no disability supplement is paid; if both spouses are eligible for the disability tax credit and your adjusted family net income is more than $49,060, no disability supplement is paid.

How the Canada Revenue Agency determines the amount of your payment

Canada Revenue Agency will use the following information to calculate your CWB:

  1. Eligible spouse based on marital status.
  2. Residence province or territory.
  3. Earned income from a job.
  4. Family net income (adjusted).
  5. Dependents who are eligible.
  6. Eligibility for the tax credit for people with disabilities.

Using the calculation sheet for your province or territory of residency, you may figure out your CWB. You may also use the Child and Family Benefits Calculator to receive an approximation of your amount.
