How to continue receiving CRB payments?
If you want to continue receiving CRB payments you must reapply for the benefit every 2 weeks up to a maximum of 19 periods because the CRB does not renew automatically. you must also make sure you meet the criteria to be eligible again, Keep looking for jobs and and submit your application after the 2-week duration during which you are applying has expired. Any time you submit, the protocol is the same.
Remember that the time to receive payments are:
- by direct deposit from cra from 3 to 5 business days.
- by check from 10 to 12 working days.
- if you require validation, up to 4 weeks after receiving the documentation.
Impact of CRB on Taxes
You must reimburse CRB. If you earned the CRB and your taxable income (excluding CRB amounts) is more than $38,000, you will be expected to refund any or all of the gain. Any sums you need to pay will be added to the gross amount owed on your 2020 income for taxes.

*For any dollar of net profits you make over $38,000, you must refund the CRB $0.50. You would not be allowed to refund more than the amount of CRB benefits you received during that year. The timing of when you repay a CRB amount can affect your taxes. If you repay an amount in the year immediately following the year you received it. You will be required to report it in that year on your tax form.

You must refund all payments you got if you are not eligible for the Canada Recovery Benefit (CRB).
How to Refund the CRB to CRA
If you do either of the following, you must return or refund the CRB to the CRA:
- You applied for the CRB and then discovered that you did not satisfy the requirements.
- Inadvertently got a reward.
If you were paid by direct deposit or do not have the original CRB check you can return the payment through a bank by looking for the CRA benefit reimbursement option and enter the social insurance number (SIN) as the CRA account number.
Another option for reimbursement is to submit a cheque or money order to the CRA, made payable to “Receiver General for Canada” and clearly marked “Canada Recovery Benefit (CRB) Reimbursement” including your Social Insurance Number (SIN).
